Dining Room Before & After

Hi Everyone! This July I became a real adult with a REAL dining room!

I have only had those in the past and they were used as home office or playrooms! But this year I finally got my own! Yay!! This room has gone through so many changes since we moved in and now it's FINALLY what I had envisioned all along! This is what it looked like right after we moved in ...meh...so sad and empty...that table was a roadkill rescue that I stained dark and reupholstered...but only 3 chairs survived the move...ugh military life!

My Hubby promised me he'd build me a farmhouse table so I knew this was temporary. I did what I could, it was ok as I was more focused on other areas of the house first! I also felt like the hutch was too big for this room, I really just wanted a buffet and a large artwork over it with shelves on the side. It just kept bugging me deep down! So this spring we FINALLY got the room put together!. My Hubby built me my dream FARMHOUSE table using the Ana white Fancy X tutorial which you can find here.

Here is what it looks like NOW. 10000X better right?!

The floating shelves and farmhouse table are one of my very favorite things! I just LOVE the fact that the table was built by my husband and its a definitely keepsake and something we can pass down through our families. The shelves I made and were a labor of love. They aren't terribly hard just a bit time consuming! You can see some of the steps below. However, Shanty 2 Chic does and amazing job at explaining everything. I just love them! The Tutorial is here.

The little blue thing in those photos is a Kreg Jig Pocket hole system. It's basically the greatest tool ever! If you're going to be building any furniture or projects like shelving this will saving you so much time! It creates pocket holes so that you can make them on the inside or furniture and it makes joints tighter so stronger furniture! This one is the basic one and was around $30.

I added a planter box and then of course made the large sign. It's now one of my favorite rooms in the house! The hutch is still in here, it's just on the other wall so it's not taking up that whole wall. So the lesson is, if you have a vision for your room when you move in, just hang on! It will all come together, I just KNEW I didn't want that big hutch in there on the wall where the movers dropped it and eventually it all worked out! Don't let anyone change your mind from what YOU want! I can't tell you how many times I was suggested to just leave it, but it bugged me! I knew what I wanted! Now I'm working on a new chandelier...we'll see how that goes!! ;)

xoxo
